The planned improvements provide an additional source of electricity and create a looped service enhancing electric reliability in the area. In the event the line experiences an outage, or needs maintenance, the other line can continue to serve customers.

Company representatives announced plans in fall 2021 to build about 8 miles of 69-kilovolt transmission line from the North Central Electric Cooperative (NCE) Republic Substation located off OH-18 in Republic to AEP Ohio's Tiffin Substation located off North State Route 101 in Tiffin.

Company representatives proposed potential route options during an in-person open house in November 2021 and determined a final proposed line route in April 2022. As the project continues to develop, NCE and AEP Ohio company representatives plan to combine facilities when feasible to reduce landowner impacts. Plans involve replacing wooden poles with single steel monopoles along the existing centerline.
