Co-op’s first substation since 2002

This spring, the cooperative started a $15 million, four-year construction work plan that features the construction of a $2 million substation in Tymotchee Township in Wyandot County. The Adrian substation marks the cooperative’s 12th substation and the first since 2002. The substation will alleviate some of the load on the Carey substation, plus accommodate the growing demand of the National Lime and Stone Co. and Kalmbach Feeds near Carey.
“The new substation is going to add to the reliability of all the members in the Carey area because if we lose transmission service to our substation, we can backfeed all our members from the Carey substation,” said Brad  Warnement, director of engineering and operations.

The construction contract was awarded to locally owned Vaughn Industries from Carey. Expected completion is late fall 2018. In May, the concrete pad was poured and the new transformer was set.
