Carey Link’s community garden is in full swing thanks to some seed money in the form of a North Central Electric People Fund grant. A rainwater collection, tools, a storage shed and a beautiful sign have all been furnished by the funding. The Carey Link Community Garden was started in 2015 to provide space and resources for people to grow their own food. The garden is located in Carey on land provided by Steve and Debbie Smalley. They are hopeful for a good growing season for all the gardeners. Carey Link is a nonprofit group dedicated to building a stronger, more resilient community in Carey. The group aims to build awareness about sustainability issues and create new opportunities for people to work, play and flourish locally. The community center, “The Link,” is a place to socialize, discuss and learn. It has a coffee shop atmosphere with coffee, tea and baked goods available for a donation. There are activities for all ages to enjoy, from board games to ping-pong. It also has a small lending library of gardening and do-it-yourself books.
