Ohio families and businesses expect the lights to stay on and at a price they can afford. Our national energy policies must embrace this fundamental promise. As electric cooperatives work to meet the changing demands of our communities and our member-consumers, prioritizing affordability and reliability is paramount. 

According to the North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC), the “disorderly retirement” of existing power plants is directly impacting reliability. 

In 2009, Ohio had 21 coal-fired plants powering the grid. We now have four. Dwindling production of reliable power coupled with increased demand is causing severe strain on the grid, contributing to the threat of rolling blackouts in the summer heat.

Please urge your members of Congress to support energy policies that protect existing generation and promote a true all-of-the-above approach to ensuring the availability of affordable and reliable power by sending a message to members of Congress.
